A Father of Conjoined Twins Has To Choose One-Access Full Details Below
This is one decision no father would want to take.
An apparently distressed father of beautiful conjoined twins will have to decide whether to separate his daughters or save one by risking the life of the other.
50-year old Ibrahima Ndiaye, brought his girls Marieme and Ndeye from Senegal to the UK when they were seven months old to Great Ormond Street Hospital for medical help.
Although the twins have separate brains, hearts and lungs, they share a liver, bladder, digestive system, and three kidneys.
Guardian reports that Marieme’s heart is weak and having low life expectancy, but if she dies her conjoined sister will also pass away.
The painful decision Ibrahima has to make is decide whether to separate his daughters Marieme and Ndeye, knowing that one of them will not survive the operation. Its a difficult thing to do but he’s left with this heart-rending option.
He said: ‘In this situation, you don’t use your brain, you follow your heart. Any decision is heartbreaking, so much turmoil, so many consequences.’
Mr Ndiaye lost his job as a project manager in tourism and events and his second wife has returned to Dakar since he brought the twins to England. The management of Great Ormond Street helped Ibrahima with accommodation while assisting in consultancy services for the medical team. He currently stays in Cardiff with his 3-year old daughters.
